            you starting college soon?

            What are your strengths?

You can't go wrong with computer science. But the thing I see in most computer scientists is that theyre either business minded or not. The ones who are get involved with startups and projects, while the ones who aren't will usually take a job somewhere crunching code for someone for some salary.

Im really salty I dont know coding which is why I'm trying really hard to learn it in my free time because I'm very business minded. I have about 10 ideas I could easily pursue and launch if I knew coding.

If anyone here is a coder and is wants to discuss some potential interesting business opportunities holler. You would take a sizeable stake in ownership if interest is still mutual after discussing. American residents preferred.

in high school i majored in auto collision repair and worked for accouple of body shops...

in the military i was a ground support technician but in the real world that job doesnt really exist (it does but it is extremely complicated)

i went to school to be an audio engineer but the timing was bad cause my girl lost her job and i became the sole provider and i needed to get on my grind since we have two kids...

i had to leave school even tho i only have about two weeks worth of classes to do so i can get certified

the reason im asking is because im now eligible for the post 9/11 bill which basically pays for my school and gives me money for rent and utilities depending on where i live (i live in the most expensive city in america)

codecademy.com and rez pretty much sparked my interest back into computers...

i was always into tech shit just never jumped in it, now that i have this open for me i need to make the best decision that i will be happy with at the same time provide for my fams...

There are people on this board who are way more well versed in Computer Science than I am.

But generally speaking, it is basically coding/programming.

I want to learn and become decent at Java this semester. If you or anyone else is interested we can dedicate a thread to bouncing resources around, and troubleshooting. The more minds the better.

But yea, you basically can't go wrong with a CS degree.

after doing some research im aiming towards IT....

aim for the business side and then knock out the BA...

the more i read about it, the more it interest me...

i worked with an advertising agency for accouple of months and my boss was a IT specialist and he pretty much ran the company (the company wasnt his since there were other departments). the company damn near folded cause he had a family emergency and had to step out for two days.

as i checked he left for greener pastures working for ogilvy and mather...

can CS be considered the same as IT...???

not all colleges/universities offer CS but offer IT and vice versa

I have a degree in Networking & Systems Management and i work as an Infrastructure/Application support analyst for Morgan Stanley.. I also do some small coding projects for my team (perl and shell scripting mostly) and I really enjoy what I do and it's good pay.. I also do my own thing on the side servicing people's computers (anything from troubleshooting software issues to hardware issues etc). You can make some real good $$ if you are a good coder and have some fresh ideas.. but any computer program you take should have different options to focus on so you can start the course and then after the first year or two you can decide what you want to major in (programming, networking, database, web design, etc).
