This for sure.

You stated that the former employer is kissing your ass, and obviously he needs the position filled and wants you to do it. You're in the power position in this case and should be able to work out a higher wage. And then ensure you're given double pay for the overtime you work that way if money becomes tight you can just drop 50 hours a week and come close to where you were previously. Plus I think you're dropping a tax bracket so you'll make up some slack in taxes paid (I could be wrong about the brackets exactly haven't looked in years).

But if you're going to drop 25 hours a week, only to pick up 5+ hours of OT at the new place, then do some freelance on the side for another few hours... you may not have any more free time than you do now.
