{R.I.P}
Malik Boyce Taylor (aka) Phife
11/20/70-3/22/16
25 years after Sheldon Lettich action film of the same title.
The U.R.L is back with its latest offering "DOUBLE IMPACT"
(no Van Damm needed)
The 1st mega event of 2016 is built around the tag team combo concept that has built up momentum over the last year.
This particular event is dedicated entirely to tag team warfare.
(Smack says he wants 2 to do these kind of events @ least once a year)
The 2 on 2's were actually booked well here and we get some surprisingly GOOD results despite the fuckery @ the end.
As in life there are GOOD times
There are BAD times
With Hoffa saying Verb saved a pic of Rex's dick on his phone and Kshine rushing Tay Roc only to raise his dukes up like a 1st grader.
U just knew shit had to get UGLY............
THE GOOD
-SHOUT OUTS
•Smack White, Beasly , Chico, Norbes and the entire U.R.L organization for pulling off a GOOD event.
•Every battlerapper on the card and in the building.
•The 5 Boroughs of NYC
•Battlerap Chris who was putting in that work (salutes)
•OTBVA.COM
-DETROIT POINEERS BAKING CAKES
(It's funny how @ this event)
Over the hill legends literally put the youth under the hill.
Props 2 Marv&Quest for reminding the battlerap world, that legends are still alive and not 2 be fucked with.
-THE DARKSIDE OF THE BLOUQE
Amazing showing by the team of Top&Brizz @ this event.
The state of North Carolina must be smiling @ them taking the W here.
(GOOD angles , chemistry and nameflips sealed the deal)
-HE ATE!
(Hoffa ate something)
That wasn't the only GOOD thing.
Hoffa URL return had him teaming with Tez against his greatest adversaries.
(It brought the best out of him)
-MIDWEST POOKIE & NINO BROWN
(ILL shows up looking like a crack head)
Ice pack and Verb have a theme to accompany their rounds.
A cool concept that showcased the prowess of both Ice pack/Verb and @ the same time explaining a lot of the past.
-IMPACTFUL SHOWINGS
•Chess and Steams were GOOD , even fusing together with Chess in a Razor edge position lol
•Big T was the backbone of a pretty decent team with Saga
•Clips&JJDD was another shockingly GOOD combo
(Clips jokes blended with JJDD dope approaches)
-FULLY LOADED GUN TITLES
Once fierce rivals turned in2 the best team of the night.
The crowd got 2 see Roc&Surf dominate Shine&DNA for 2 rounds.
The instant chemistry and flowing attacks exceeded many expectations.
THE BAD
-2 SIDES OF THE CROWD
(After a certain amount of time)
The crowd started chanting "WE WANT BATTLES", which was fine.
It started getting BAD when all of the out of towners were drunk and started screaming through every round.
-WRONG BATTER IN THE CAKE
Chess was great and even Steams did his thing.
The problem is that they shouldn't be a team anymore.
Chess has to dumb his style down to make it fit with Steams IMO
-BLOQUE IN DEPAIR
(Chilla was saving Magic big time here)
Magic had his moments esp in the end of the 3rd but it was surprising to see Magic and Chilla not mesh as well as some people would have hoped.
-SABOTAGING YOUR OWN SHIT
Math and Tez bring chairs out and have the Hoffa soundtrack play @ the start of the 3rd (this intro fucked up the entire round for the NYB squad)
-NO COORDINATION
Other teams seem to have none of it
(Chilla&Magic was a huge disappointment)
Even Verb and ILL felt more like 2 single performances, rather than a unified attack.
-TAG TEAM TRINKETS
Shine and DNA stroll in the battle raising a miniature version of the current WWE tag title belts.
These bronze monstrosities are the worst reincarnation of the tag titles.
-SWITCHAROO
Because of the debacle (Tay Roc mic broke)
Which meant that after every round , precious time was being wasted.
THE UGLY
-EXTREMELY LATE TO THE PARTY
The URL are years behind damm near everyone in the 2 on 2 department.
2 on 2 team battlerap actually has a rich history that has appeared in every major league and stretches back to the scribble jam days.
(New age URL fans will never know that tho)
-EVENT 3-OING PEOPLE
No lie this was my 3rd time watching somebody pass out and being carried out of a URL event.
(Smack grabs the mic and says the following)
"He'll be aight"
"Give him some water, some food"
"He'll be back" lmaooooo
-DOUBLE INCOMPLETION
This event like many other URL events has a bad aftertaste.
(It's a taste of incompletion)
-EMOTIONAL LITTLE SHINE
Kshine is becoming infamous for all the wrong reasons.
After shoving chess and then slapping charron last year.
Shine starts the year off by rushing Tay roc @ this event.
I get that it was more out of frustration rather then aggression.
It still made Shine look all the more stupid and emotional @ the same time.
-EVICTING THE CROWD
After Clips&JJDD 3rd round the lights slowly turned on & the mics (shut off)
Smack pleads with the venue for 3 mins.
(enough for Saga&T last round)
Irving Plaza has other plans and smack screams
"we going finish this in the street!"
So I wait around in the street but I see police and security ordering everyone to disperse (Right before I left I told security)
