Escape Rooms Online: The Latest Way to Beat Boredom From Home

While escape rooms have been around since 2007, it wasn’t until the late 2010s that they became immensely popular. In fact, in 2019, over 68% of people surveyed said they’d been to an escape room at least once!

Maybe you’ve heard of them before but never got the chance to experience an escape room. Or maybe you’re a huge enthusiast!

Either way, going to a physical escape room currently isn’t possible in many places since we’re in the middle of a pandemic. But you can definitely experience escape rooms online!

Are you curious about hearing more? Then read on. We’ll tell you about the cool escape room puzzles online you can try out.

The Mystery of Time and Space

If this online escape room sounds familiar, then it might be because you played it in your childhood. This is actually the first online escape room and came out in 2001!

While this game is 2 decades old, that doesn’t mean it’s not fun. In fact, it has 20 different levels, which all vary in difficulty.

If you love sci-fi, then don’t miss out on this online escape room. We guarantee it’ll be hours of fun!

The Crimson Room

Don’t have hours to spend on escape rooms online? Or don’t have a long attention span? Then you’ll want to try out The Crimson Room.

This is a Japanese-made online escape room. It’s also on the older side, as it first hit the scene in 2004.

You’ll play as someone who got blackout drunk and wake up in someone else’s room. You’ll have to use your wits to get out of the room ASAP, before it’s too late! (We won’t spoil it for you)

Hogwarts Digital Escape Room

This is an escape room that was created in Google Sheets, which might sound weird at first. But for Harry Potter fans, this one’s a must, especially if you’re looking to do an escape room with friends! This escape room was created by a librarian, so you know it’ll be good.

Sit down with your friends and play as first-year wizards who are new to Hogwarts. You’ll get to figure out puzzles and answer some trivia to get through this escape room! It’s the ultimate way to show off your HP knowledge.

Baba Yaga

For those of you who love folklore, Baba Yaga can be a fun virtual escape room to play.

In this game, you’ve been captured by the witch and you’re trapped in her treehouse. You have to look around and use all the magical items to your advantage.

Since you’re just an ordinary being, it can be tricky to figure out which magical items do what. But once you figure it out, it’ll feel quite satisfying to escape the evil witch!

Breakout Games

This is an escape room Gatlinburg has, although as you may have already guessed, they’ve currently gone digital! Your choices include Mystery Mansion, The Kidnapping, Museum Heist, and Hostage.

To play their online escape rooms, simply book your reservation online. Then, you’ll get a Breakout Gamemaster who will hop on a video call with you and your friends.

You’ll then work to direct the Gamemaster to solve the escape room. But be quick, as you’ll only have 60 minutes to solve the puzzles!

What’s great is this escape room is offering free games for those who have deployed loved ones in their parties. So you just might be able to get a free escape room experience!

Breakout Games offers you a different experience from the other digital escape rooms on this list since you’ll get to see a physical escape room in play. This just might be the push you need to book a real-life session once the pandemic’s over!

Doctor Who: Worlds Collide

Here’s another online escape room for TV and film fans! Plus, like with Breakout Games, you’ll get on a video call to play the escape room “in real life” from the perspective of a staff member.

In this scenario, you’ve traveled into the future where the world’s about to be attacked by Cybermen. This is thanks to a tear in the fabric of space and time, which happened as a result of billionaire Alastair Montague’s commercialization of time travel.

You have to work with your team to find out how to fix the tear in space and time. Otherwise, in 60 minutes, the Cybermen will arrive to invade the world!

Pirate Island and Magic School

Last on this list are 2 more video call escape rooms. These are both offered by Holey Moley in Sydney, so if you enjoy what they have to offer, think about swinging by their location in the future if you’re ever in the neighborhood.

Obviously, if you love pirates, it’s a no-brainer which escape room you should try. With Pirate Island, you’ll be looking for treasure. But first, you have to locate the island!

On the other hand, Harry Potter fans will rejoice with Magic School, as this is another escape room that has to do with wizardry. Like with Pirate Island, in Magic School, there’s some hidden treasure you need to uncover!

Do note that Magic School is slightly more difficult than Pirate Island, so if you’re new to escape rooms, we’d suggest starting wtih the latter.

Try Escape Rooms Online

Nothing beats going to an escape room in person, but as for now, you’ll have to experience them digitally. It can be a great way to “meet up” with friends as well, so make sure you give these escape rooms online a try!

Once we’re out of this pandemic and things start returning to normal, then you can get together with your friends and try out exciting escape rooms together. But as for now, digital is the second-best thing, plus it’s safe!
