Whether you’re an avid WWE fan or not, chances are you’ve seen the faces of quite a few of the most famous wrestlers grace your television screen.
These wrestlers were larger than life during their prime years, but just like any other type of celebrity, fame fades. Eventually, they have to figure out what else to do with their lives.
Are you curious as to what these beasts of WWE are up to now? We know you are. Luckily, we’ve got the scoop on what they’re doing with their day-to-day lives after wrestling. Read on for more.
Jesse “The Body” Ventura
We’ll start with one of the most well-known WWE stars that also had one of the most public lives after his wrestling fame. It’s Jesse Ventura, also known as “The Body”.
Jesse Ventura was in the ring before the WWE became a household television event, but he gained worldwide fame for his commentary next to the ring. Alongside Gorilla Monsoon, he handled almost all of the WrestleMania events during the WWE heyday. He became a controversial staple for traditionally favoring the villains.
Following his WWE fame, Jesse Ventura became involved in politics. Through this, he became a household name for entirely different reasons.
After serving as mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota for four years, Ventura decided to go big. In 1998, he was elected governor of Minnesota under the Reform Party. It was a surprise victory as he narrowly beat both Republican and Democratic candidates.
Jesse Ventura served as governor of Minnesota until 2003, and after that stayed involved in politics. He loosely considered a bid for the presidency in 2016. He’s briefly mentioned running for president in 2020, but hasn’t officially declared yet.
Prior to being involved in politics, Jesse Ventura was a moderately successful actor, appearing in blockbuster films such as Predator and Batman & Robin.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
The Rock has had so much success as a movie star that some people don’t even realize that he started his entertainment career as a professional wrestler.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin absolutely dominated the world of professional wrestling. But while Steve Austin remained a household name for wrestling, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson became a household name for his acting career.
Johnson’s first breakout role came with The Scorpion King in 2002. He subsequently starred in numerous other films, in both action and comedic roles.
One of The Rock’s most famous roles is Luke Hobbs in the Fast and the Furious franchise. This series still racks up millions of dollars with each new film.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson currently resides in Florida with his partner Lauren Hashian and their children.
Stone Cold Steve Austin
Stone Cold Steve Austin was arguably the biggest star in WWE history, with only Hulk Hogan competing with him for that title. However, along with great fame in wrestling comes a persona that’s hard to shed, and Austin never gained much success outside of the wrestling community.
Stone Cold Steve Austin’s biggest role outside of professional wrestling was as Dan Paine in the blockbuster film The Expendables.
Steve Austin has hosted several reality competition shows on CMT, including his own Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Challenge. He also is the host of a successful podcast appropriately called The Steve Austin Show.
Austin is currently married to his fourth wife. He splits his time between his home in Marina Del Rey, California and his Broken Skull Ranch 2.0 property in Nevada.
John Cena is one of the biggest and most successful stars in WWE, especially amongst those still active in the wrestling world. He’s won a record sixteen world championships in the WWE, as well as five U.S. championships.
Cena signed with WWE in 2000 as a trash-talking rapper, placing him squarely with the villains. After gaining success as a villain, he eventually switched to a heroic good guy role, as most successful wrestlers do, and became the face of the franchise.
John Cena has had a successful film career, starting with WWE-produced action films The Marine and 12 Rounds. Recently, Cena has starred in several comedies, most notably Trainwreck and Blockers, showcasing his diversity as an actor. Cena has also released a hip-hop album to moderate success.
Cena currently lives in Tampa, Florida but is still fiercely loyal to the sports teams of his hometown of Boston. He recently lived in China for five months while shooting a short film with Jackie Chan, but has since moved back to the United States.
Hulk Hogan: King of the Famous Wrestlers
Widely recognized as the most popular wrestler of all time, both inside and outside the wrestling world, Hulk Hogan is probably the face you picture when someone mentions professional wrestling.
Hulk Hogan started his career and gained widespread popularity as the hero of the WWE (Then WWF) in the late 80s and early 90s. However, he was also known for his wildly popular years with the WCW, where he led the nWo (New World Order) faction.
Hulk Hogan had an extensive acting career both during and after his wrestling years. After appearing in action films like Rocky III and No Holds Barred, he became known for his roles in family-friendly films. This made him a household name amongst adults and children alike.
Films he appeared in include Suburban Commando, Muppets in Space, and 3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain.
Hogan and his family starred in the wildly popular VH1 reality show Hogan Knows Best which was followed by Brooke Knows Best, a spinoff centering around his daughter Brooke Hogan.
Currently, Hogan is busy with charity work, as well as rejoining the wrestling world, albeit not inside the ring. He also owns two stores in Florida called Hogan’s Beach Shop, which contain tons of Hogan memorabilia that you can view here.
