    i remember when the guy passed an alarming number of people especially online became an instant j dilla fan. Tbh I knew only a handful of his production credits.

    No disrespect his beats were great and all, he had an amazing hear for music/samples and an impressive collection of vinyl. But i never got into the fact he didnt quantize his drums. Always sounded awkward to me. Especially since im more of a Premo, Nick Wiz, Buckwild, Necro, old Alchemist, etc. kinda fan. Those guys quantized their drums but (this is key) they added Swing to their kicks. Which gave it that boombap yet extra gritty essence.

    I did like that the vid provided a nice lil piece on the history of MPC's though.
    Its worth a watch for that alone.

          yeah Havoc one of the goats too many classics under the mobb's belt
          i think he uses that midi+software NI Maschine nowadays and beasts on it

            Interesting point. But those effects are used when you sample a beat or a portion of a beat, right? They dont work if you isolate your drum kicks, snares and hihats and create a drum pattern?
